CINERGY CINEMAS COMING TO MIDLAND
Hybrid Entertainment Complex/Dine-In Theatre Features Eleven Screens including the Largest Screen between D/FW and Phoenix, Arcade, Bowling,
Laser Maze & Ropes Course
(MIDLAND, Texas) — Cinergy Cinemas, LP announced plans for a new state-of-the-art eleven screen theatre, first-run cinema complex/entertainment center in the Gateway Plaza retail development at Business I-20 and Loop 250 today. The $10.5 million hybrid dine-in theatre/entertainment complex is a first for Midland/Odessa and is expected to be complete by the holiday season in 2012.
Cinergy Cinemas is a unique concept that combines the food and beverage offerings of a Movie Tavern/Alamo Drafthouse, the family entertainment center amenities of Main Event, and theatre amenities that are second to none including the largest screen between Dallas/Ft. Worth and Phoenix. Cinergy’s stadium-style seating is designed with ‘Texas-sized’ leg room of 50 inches between rows. Ultra comfortable leather chairs adorn every screen complete with oversized recliners with foot rests in the front rows. This cinema will be unlike anything in West Texas with a huge arcade and gaming area with more than 50 games, four lanes of mini-bowling, a laser maze, and three birthday party rooms. It will also feature an elevated ropes course above the lobby and arcade.
“The Midland/Odessa market is one of the largest in the state that does not have a dine-in theatre or large format screen,” Cinergy Cinemas CEO Jeff Benson said. “We have taken our experience from founding and expanding Movie Tavern to a whole new level. We had 15 theatres at Movie Tavern when we sold out, but none of those come close to what this theatre will be like.” With a 2,000+ square foot ropes course suspended over the arcade, there will literally be people hanging from the ceiling. This will be the most exciting place in the Permian Basin region to go to the movies, have a birthday party, or even a corporate team building event.
Janice Havens, President of The Havens Group, Inc., the real estate broker for the Gateway Plaza development, says, “We are proud to continue to bring new business growth into the Midland/Odessa market, especially to Gateway Plaza. We have plans to continue to create a retail center which will serve the entire Permian Basin. Cinergy Cinemas is an important key component for the forthcoming retail and restaurant development at this gateway to the City of Midland.”
According to Jamie Benson, Vice President, “From a movie experience perspective, what will really set this theatre apart will be the special High Definition Xtreme screen, dubbed GIGA HDX.” The HDX entertainment environment will feature the largest screen between D/FW and Phoenix at over 71 feet wide. It will feature a wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screen, similar to an IMAX, ultra high-end leather seating, a custom sound system featuring crisp, clear digital sound, and digital images delivered by a Barco DLP digital projector. It will be THE place to watch the biggest Hollywood blockbusters!
Cinergy Cinemas features a full menu of chef prepared American favorites such as half-pound Angus burgers, hand-tossed pizzas, tasty appetizers, and grilled sandwiches. Food items are cooked to order and brought to the auditorium where the customer is paged to come to the food pick-up area in the theatre. Thus, patrons never have to leave their auditorium to get their food. This method of delivery is far less distracting than normal dine-in theatres that have waiters and waitresses. To make the evening more memorable for our adult patrons, beer and wine will also be available.
Dennis Butler, Movie Tavern co-founder and Partner in Cinergy Cinemas says, “It is no secret that the Midland/Odessa market is booming as it has the lowest unemployment rate in the state. I’ve got family in Midland and they tell us first-hand that this project is badly needed and will be very well received.”
The project will create between 75 and 100 temporary construction jobs with approximately 50 full- and part-time employees staffing the cinema upon its opening.
DVA Architecture from Atlanta is designing the complex as they specialize in cinema and dine-in theatre design.
